Ann Ballard Bryan

Ann Ballard Bryan paints and photographs the quiet and exceptional moments in the ordinary and everyday. Most often rarely noticed, she finds small defining moments concealed in the customary and exceptional beauty cloaked in the plain. Ann's works are intimate documentaries of life as it happens. ''I'm captivated by people, what they do, what they create, what their motivation might be."

Ann was born and raised in Arkansas and spent most of her free time creating; frequently admonished in school as a "Day Dreamer." Now an award winning designer, writer, and
musician, the day dreaming paid off. After a twelve year detour as a Registered Pharmacist, Ann returned to her creative roots and enrolled at the University of Central Arkansas receiving a Bachelors in Interior Design followed by a Master of Science. "If I had known you could create stuff for a living, I probably would have never opened a
calculus book. Math is cool, but you have to follow exact rules to get to the answer. I've never really liked following rules."

With the education received at UCA, she has restored historic homes, designed interiors for corporate spaces, and designed interiors for business jeK She is now a Clinical Instructor at UCA teaching Interior Design courses. Her retreat/studio is the historic Davidson House, 12 miles down Hwy 26 W in Hollywood, which she has been restoring for the past nine years. "I love this place. No TV or internet. You have to stand in the pasture to talk on a cell phone. Kind of like Green Acres."

As a result of extensive world travels and people watching, Ann recognized a need to document her view of the world through art and photography. Her subject always being life in the ordinary as she quietly observes the pursuit and craft of living; "Life in Bit~and Snatches." "If you are too literal, you miss all of life's puns. If you are too analytical, you miss all of the tiny miracles. If you are too structured, you miss the happy accidents. And, if you only look, you miss getting to see."
