My
name is Michael Uhl and I have played around with all types of art
and crafts since 1967. I thought I wanted to be a painter and I
concentrated on acrylics for a number of years. I also was a draftsman
and technical Illustrator. I did photo retouch and worked on guidance
systems for submarines and missile design and control panels for
many pieces of equipment. I was on the team that developed the manuals
for the DC-10 aircraft landing gear. I retired from the corporate
world in 1994 and started teaching Special Education in classes
PK-12. This gave me a chance to expand my art roots since art is
a great teaching tool. The amount of expression a disabled or mentally
challenged person is enhanced when they can put their feelings and
thoughts on paper through drawings.
That is a little background of my exposure to the
world of graphic arts. I love making images appear on paper or canvas.
My oil knowledge started growing in 2008. I met someone who had
a studio and wanted more artists around. The group setting is encouraging
and educational. Myself and two ladies started painting together
and I have enjoyed the instruction and company. I have had a chance
to have a showing of my art at local library and at a Gallery in
McKinney, Texas. I participated in the Caddo River Art tour in 2010
and found it to be great. My next goal is to learn watercolor painting.
